Yes! Tailo is designed for students who find long or complex academic texts tricky.

It offers a range of tools to make reading easier and more engaging, from summaries and read-aloud features to an AI tutor that’s always there to help you understand and work through difficult sections.

Early Access gives students the chance to use Tailo before its full public launch.

By signing up for Early Access, students can try Tailo’s core features, give feedback, and help shape how the product develops. Early Access users get hands-on experience with Tailo while it’s still evolving.

Yes. Early Access to Tailo is completely free for students. You can use Tailo as much as you like during Early Access. There is no payment or card details required to sign up, and no obligation to continue using Tailo once Early Access ends.

Tailo uses AI to help you engage with your own academic materials, but it’s designed to support your thinking, not replace it.

Tailo isn’t “AI slop” or a shortcut that robs you of cognitive skills; instead, it helps you focus, understand, and organise your reading more effectively.

Tailo is a tool to help you manage your reading and research. You’re always in control, and reviewing key points in your own reading is still essential to your learning.

To log in to your Tailo account, visit [URL] and choose how you originally signed up – either with your email address or your Google account.

If you registered using your email:

1. Enter your registered email address.

2. We’ll send a one-time passcode to your inbox.

3. Check your email (and your spam/junk folder if needed).

4. Enter the passcode on the login screen to access your account. Make sure you use the same email address you registered with.

If you signed up using Google:

1. Select “Continue with Google.”

2. Choose your Google account.

3. You’ll be logged in automatically.

Tailo is a browser-based app, so it isn’t currently available to download from the App Store or Google Play. You can access Tailo directly through your web browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile – no download required.

Adding your documents to Tailo is quick and simple.

From the Home page, you can either:

• Click “Upload” and select the file(s) you’d like to add, or
• Drag and drop your file(s) directly from your desktop into Tailo

Once uploaded, your documents will be ready to read in Tailo.

Supported file formats

Tailo currently supports PDF (.pdf), Word documents (.docx), and EPUB (.epub), up to a maximum file size of 200MB.

Yes – the maximum file size per document is 200MB. If you’re having trouble uploading a file, check that it doesn’t exceed this limit and that it’s in a supported format.

Yes – when you open a document in Tailo, you’ll automatically see a summary of key points. You can customise the length and complexity to suit your needs.

You can also:

• Summarise specific sections within a document
• Generate summaries across multiple documents by adding them to a project

Yes — you can use Tailo’s Research feature to search open-access, peer-reviewed academic publications and find relevant sources for your research.

Simply enter your research objective to begin your search, and Tailo will surface relevant academic literature to explore further. It’s designed to help you discover credible sources more efficiently and support your research process.

Yes – Tailo makes it easy to create references in your preferred style.

From within a document, simply click “Create reference”, choose your referencing style, and copy it directly to your clipboard.

You can also export references as a .ris file, which can be uploaded into most referencing tools (such as Zotero, EndNote, and RefWorks).

Creating references in bulk

To create or export multiple references at once:

1. Go to your Document Library
2. Click “Manage”
3. Select the documents you want
4. Click “Reference”

This allows you to quickly generate and export references for several documents at the same time.

No — Tailo is designed to support your learning, not to write assignments for you.

It helps you find sources, organise your documents and better understand your reading lists. Our tools don’t currently support assignment writing.

Tailo is built to help you develop your own knowledge and ideas – so you can write with confidence.

From the Home page, click “Create project” and enter a name for your project.

You can also add an optional project objective. This helps Tailo:

• Rank your documents based on relevance to your objective
• Generate a summary across all documents in the project

Adding an objective helps Tailo tailor your materials to your goals — making it easier to work more effectively through your reading list.

Yes – Tailo automatically detects images, tables and equations in your documents.

These elements are displayed alongside your document text, so you can view and work with them as you read.

Tailo’s Research feature is designed to help you find relevant and credible academic material, so you can focus on understanding and analysis.

To get started:

1. Click “Create research” from the Home page
2. Enter your research question – we’ll then search open-access, peer-reviewed academic sources to find relevant material.
3. Review the suggested academic publications

You can explore relevant sources and add useful papers to Tailo to continue reading and analysing them.

You can easily customise your reading view to suit your preferences. Simply navigate to Settings, select Appearance, and adjust options such as:

• Colour theme
• Light or dark mode
• High contrast
• Font
• Text alignment

These settings are designed with accessibility in mind, so you can choose what works best for your reading comfort and needs.

Renaming a document is simple.

1. From your Tailo home page, click the three dots on the right-hand side of the document you’d like to rename.
2. Click “Rename”
3. Type in the new name of your document, and then click “Update”
