3.1 Service description
Tailo is designed to enhance your digital reading experience by providing accessible and tailored content. With Tailo, you can upload documents to adjust formatting, access definitions, explanations and summaries, receive personalised support through AI‑powered tools, and use other accessibility and learning features designed to support your reading and comprehension.
3.2 AI Service expectations and data privacy
Accuracy and relevancy
Tailo leverages AI technologies to enhance your reading experience. As AI is still evolving, the outputs may not always be accurate or relevant. You should carefully review AI‑generated content before relying on it for critical decisions. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any errors, inaccuracies, or potentially offensive or inappropriate language that may be generated by AI.
Speed of Service
While Tailo’s AI features aim to process requests swiftly, processing times can vary depending on content complexity, current demand, and external factors. While we strive to respond promptly, delays, interruptions, or errors may occur.
Data privacy
When you upload documents to Tailo or use AI‑powered features, your data may be processed by third‑party providers that help us deliver, host, and analyse the Service. These providers act on our instructions and are required to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data. For detailed information about how your personal data is handled, please refer to our Privacy Statement.
3.3 Explanations and definitions
The Service may provide word definitions, explanations, and similar reference information generated or facilitated by AI systems and other external sources. While we aim for accuracy, this content may sometimes be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect, and you should not rely on it as a sole source of truth. You remain responsible for verifying any important information before relying on it.
4. User accounts
4.1 Account creation
To use Tailo, you must have authorised access provided by a reseller, organisation, or institution, or sign up directly with us. You must provide accurate and current information when creating an account. Failure to do so may result in the immediate termination of your account.
4.2 Registration obligations
You agree to maintain accurate and complete registration information. This data, along with other information about you, is governed by our Privacy Statement.
4.3 Account termination
We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account at any time, especially in cases of breach of these Terms.
4.4 Institutional accounts
If you access Tailo through an institutional arrangement (such as a university pilot), that institution may manage your account and terminate access in line with their agreements with us.
5. Access and use of the Service
5.1 Modifications to Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice.
5.2 General practices regarding use and storage
We may set limits on usage, storage, or retention for operational reasons, including limits on the size, number, or duration of stored documents and data, and we may delete content that exceeds those limits.
While we take reasonable steps to protect data, we are not liable for loss of content resulting from factors outside our reasonable control.
5.3 Feature usage limits and fair use policy
To maintain Service quality and prevent abuse, we may apply usage limits to certain features, such as caps on the volume, frequency, or duration of use. These limits may vary over time, by user type, or by subscription plan and are applied under a fair usage policy designed to ensure stable performance for all users. Where relevant, specific limits may be communicated within the Service or in related documentation.
5.4 Document upload limits and fair use policy
To maintain Service quality, we may impose limits on the number, size, or total storage of document uploads, as well as on how long such content is retained in your account. We may take measures, including throttling, temporary restrictions, or suspension, if your use exceeds what we reasonably consider fair and normal usage.
5.5 AI‑assisted features and academic integrity
Certain features of the Service use AI to provide explanations, summaries, and other learning support. These features are intended to help you understand content and build your own work and must not be used to complete academic tasks on your behalf or to engage in any form of academic misconduct.
6. User content
6.1 Your right to upload content
You retain ownership of any content you upload to the Service. You are responsible for ensuring that your content is legal, reliable, and appropriate.
6.2 Content restrictions
You are solely responsible for the content you upload and any activity under your account. We do not control user‑posted content and are not liable for any errors, omissions, or damages resulting from such content. You must ensure that your use of the Service and your content complies with applicable laws and institutional policies.
6.3 Content backups
We do not guarantee that your content will be backed up or protected against loss. Whilst every effort is made to ensure your files are preserved and readily available to you, it is your responsibility to maintain a copy of your content independent of the Service.
6.4 File upload errors
We do not guarantee that your content will be uploaded or displayed correctly. While we strive to ensure accurate extraction and display of your files, content may occasionally be extracted or presented incorrectly. It is your responsibility to review the uploaded content to ensure it is accurate and meets your needs. We are not liable for any issues or damages resulting from such errors.
7. Third-party services
We use third‑party services and APIs to deliver, host, secure, and improve the Service, including (but not limited to) providers of hosting, storage, authentication, analytics, communications, and AI‑powered functionality. These providers process data on our behalf under written agreements and are required to implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures.
We may change or add providers from time to time without updating these Terms, provided that we maintain at least the same level of protection for your data. Where required by law or by our contracts with institutions, we will make available an up‑to‑date list of key sub‑processors or third‑party providers on request or in a separate document.
8. Intellectual property
The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of the Company, its subsidiaries, and licensors. The Service is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Our trademarks may not be used in connection with any product or service without our prior written consent.
9. Your feedback to us
You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use and incorporate your Feedback. If assignment is not possible under applicable law, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty‑free licence to use and exploit the Feedback in any manner.
10. Links to other websites
The Service may contain links to third‑party websites or services not owned or controlled by us. We are not responsible for their content, privacy policies, or practices, and we recommend reviewing the terms and privacy policies of any third‑party sites you visit.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms or misuse the Service. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. You may terminate your account by discontinuing use of the Service and, where applicable, requesting deletion.
12. Early access, beta, and trial offerings
From time to time, we may offer early access, beta, pilot, or other trial versions of the Service to individual users or institutions, which may include access to the full or extended feature set at no charge for a limited period. These offerings are provided for evaluation and feedback purposes, may be changed or discontinued at any time, and may differ from the generally available paid version of the Service.
We may introduce paid plans, freemium tiers, or other pricing models in the future. If we do so, we will provide reasonable notice and information about available options before charging you or requiring you to move to a paid plan. Continued use of the Service after such changes may require you to select a plan and provide payment details.
We may notify you about such changes, including available plans or feature updates, using the contact details associated with your account, in accordance with applicable law and your communication preferences.
13. Compliance obligations
We comply with UK data protection laws for all UK users, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. For US institutional users, we act as a data processor under FERPA and process education records only on the institution’s instructions. Tailo complies with applicable U.S. state privacy laws (including CCPA/CPRA, CPA, and VCDPA) where relevant and does not sell or share personal data.
14. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the Company or its suppliers be liable for any special, incidental, indirect, or consequential damages whatsoever (including, but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, loss of data or other information, for business interruption, for personal injury, loss of privacy arising out of or in any way related to the use of or inability to use the Service, third-party software and/or third-party hardware used with the Service, or otherwise in connection with any provision of these Terms), even if the Company or any supplier has been advised of the possibility of such damages and even if the remedy fails of its essential purpose.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or limitation of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to you. In such cases, liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
15. “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” disclaimer
The Service is provided to you “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”, with all faults and without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non‑infringement, and any arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, operate without interruption or errors, or that defects will be corrected, nor do we guarantee the accuracy or reliability of any content.
Nothing in section 14 and 15 affects any statutory rights you may have as a consumer under applicable law.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom, in addition to any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence. You agree to comply with all applicable export and sanctions laws and confirm that you are not subject to any embargo or on any government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
16.1 For European Union (EU) users
If You are a European Union consumer, you will benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are resident.

- You will not export, re-export, transfer, or release any part of the Service to prohibited countries, individuals, or entities.
17. Dispute resolution
Please contact us first to attempt to resolve any disputes informally before taking further legal action.
18. Severability and waiver
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be modified and interpreted to achieve its intended purpose to the maximum extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. Failure to exercise any right or require performance shall not be deemed a waiver of such right or performance in the future.
19. Translation interpretation
These Terms may be translated into other languages. In the event of a dispute, the original English version shall prevail.
20. Changes to these Terms of Service
We may update these Terms where there is a valid reason, such as improving the Service, complying with legal requirements, or enhancing security.
