A customizable reading app: fonts, spacing, and overlays
Tailo lets you customize every part of your reading experience, so the way content looks works for you, not against you.
Everything you can customize in Tailo
Most reading tools give you one fixed layout. Tailo is fully customizable, from fonts and colors to spacing and layout, so your reading environment fits the way you study.

Font size and style
Adjust font size, typeface, and weight to make reading more comfortable. Dyslexia-friendly fonts and cleaner typefaces reduce fatigue and help you focus for longer.

Color themes and background
Choose from color themes or set your own background to reduce visual stress. Lower contrast and warmer tones help reduce eye strain during long study sessions.

Reading width and layout
Adjust reading width to control how much text appears at once. Narrower columns are easier to track, and a cleaner layout makes dense academic texts more manageable.

Highlight and annotation colors
Choose your own highlight and annotation colors so different note categories are easy to tell apart. Color-coded annotations make studying for finals faster and more organized.
Built for students who study differently
The default reading experience wasn’t designed with every student in mind. Fixed fonts, high-contrast backgrounds, and dense layouts work for some people and make reading much harder for others. Tailo’s customization tools exist to remove that barrier.
Every setting you adjust is saved automatically, so your personalized reading environment is there every time you open the app. No resetting, no compromising. Just a reading experience customized to work for you.

FAQs
Questions about customizing your reading experience in Tailo? Here are the ones students ask most.
Can I save my customization settings permanently?
Yes. Every customization you make in Tailo is saved automatically to your account. Your preferred font, color theme, reading width, and annotation colors will be there every time you log in, across all your devices. You don’t need to set things up again each session.
Does customizing the layout affect the original PDF?
No. Tailo’s customization tools only change how content looks within the app. The original PDF or document is completely unaffected. If you download or share the original file, it will look exactly as it did when you uploaded it. Your customized reading view exists only within Tailo.
Can I use different settings for different subjects or projects?
Currently, Tailo applies your customization settings globally across all your reading. If you prefer different settings for different types of content, you can adjust them as needed, and they’ll update instantly across your current session. We’re always developing new features, so project-level customization may be available in future updates.
Is the customize feature available on the Chrome extension too?
Yes. When you send a paper to Tailo using the Chrome extension, it opens in your Tailo reading view with all your settings already applied, so you get the same reading environment wherever your research starts.
Are these settings available on mobile?
Yes. Tailo’s customizable reading settings are available on mobile. Font size, color themes, and layout adjustments all work on smaller screens, and your settings sync automatically, so your reading experience is consistent whether you’re on a laptop, tablet, or phone.
How do Tailo’s customization features help disabled students?
Tailo lets you change how content looks on screen, not just what it says. You can switch between light and dark mode, choose a color theme, and turn on high contrast, all designed to reduce visual strain and make text easier to read for longer. For students with dyslexia, this can mean choosing colors and contrast levels that stop text from “swimming” on the page. For students with visual impairments or light sensitivity, high contrast and dark mode can make the difference between a readable page and a painful one. And because everyone’s needs are different, you’re not locked into one fixed layout. You set it up the way that actually works for you, and Tailo remembers it.
Trusted by thousands of students
Thousands of students are already customizing Tailo to suit how they read best, from first-year undergraduates to graduate students managing heavy research loads. Tailo is available to all students, whatever they’re studying and however they learn.
Francesca
I’ve been doing really well at uni – Tailo helps me focus on what matters.
Chase
I use Talio all the time now for all of my reading, I'm no longer skimming the reading lists in a panic before classes to get a vague idea of what's going on.
Jesse
I was sceptical because I didn’t think that Tailo would change the way that I engaged with information as much as it did. Just try it and you won’t uninstall it.
Megan
I have used ChatGPT to summarise a piece of text before, however Tailo is much better. I prefer how Tailo works and I feel it is more reliable.
